# Set up with VS Code

Add Unhandled to VS Code with one click, one command or one workspace config file.

VS Code agent mode reads Unhandled through the [MCP server](/docs/features/mcp-server).

## Connect

[Install in VS Code](vscode:mcp/install?%7B%22name%22%3A%22unhandled%22%2C%22type%22%3A%22http%22%2C%22url%22%3A%22https%3A%2F%2Funhandled.net%2Fmcp%2Fx%2Fdebug%22%7D) adds it in one click, as does the install link in **Settings > Agent setup**. Or run:

```bash
code --add-mcp '{"name":"unhandled","type":"http","url":"https://unhandled.net/mcp/x/debug"}'
```

Or add it to `.vscode/mcp.json` in your workspace:

```json [.vscode/mcp.json]
{
  "servers": {
    "unhandled": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://unhandled.net/mcp/x/debug"
    }
  }
}
```

VS Code starts the server and asks you to sign in to Unhandled. The URL is the `debug` [toolset](/docs/features/mcp-server#toolsets). More options are in the [VS Code MCP configuration docs](https://code.visualstudio.com/docs/agents/reference/mcp-configuration).

## Use it

Open Copilot Chat in agent mode and ask it to fix an issue by URL. It calls `get_fix_context` and follows the result. VS Code connects over MCP only, so `unhandled fix` and `unhandled watch` do not start it. For the GitHub-hosted agent, see [Set up with GitHub Copilot](/docs/agents/setup-with-copilot).

## Next

- [Fix issues](/docs/agents/fix-issues): Fix an issue from the issue page or the CLI.
- [Prompts](/docs/agents/prompts): Add the `AGENTS.md` section to your repository.
